VIDESH Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) is going to be the network administrator for the trans-continental undersea cable system, SEA-ME-WE4.

The company is also a consortium partner in SEA-ME-WE4, which has 16 such members (including Bharti from India).

VSNL also hosts the network-operating centre for the system in Mumbai. The twin role of network administrator and hosting the operating centre will enable VSNL toplay a key role in the day-to-day operations of the cable system, a news release from the company said. This would be a first by any company in India, said VSNL.

Mr N. Now with the commissioning of the SEA-ME-WE4 system, we will be able to enhance our network coverage in Asia, Africa and Europe."

The consortium of 16 partners, announced at Dubai on December 13, the completion and inauguration of the high-capacity fibre-optic submarine cable that stretches from France to Singapore.
