`Common integrated police application' launched

THE Minister of Communications and IT, Mr Dayanidhi Maran, today inaugurated Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA) at Connaught Place Police Station in Delhi, and said the application would cover all 15,000 police stations of the country over the next three years.

Mr Maran said a police station is the primary unit for public interface for law and order and improving the efficiency of police stations was therefore vital for enhancing the image of the police in the minds of citizens. The initiative of Common Integrated Police Application, a mission mode project under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), aims at automating the workflow at the police station and reducing paper work substantially.

He said the Government has selected 26 departments which would be e-enabled in a time-bound manner on the basis of interface of these departments with the citizens. The departments include land records, registration, panchayats, municipalities and police.

Information Technology can play a very role in improving the functioning of the Police, by facilitating easy recording, retrieval and analysis of pile of information, he added.

Common Integrated Police Application Project was launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs, for Police Department in 2004 with a view to reducing manual records/register maintenance at Police Stations. It eliminates duplication and inconsistency in record keeping and facilitates maintenance of details of criminals.
