IIM-K inks pact with NZ varsity

Kochi , Dec. 16

THE Indian Institute of Management (Kozhikode) has signed an agreement with the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, for scientific and educational cooperation.

Professor Krishna Kumar, Director of the institute, signed the agreement with Professor Neil Quigley, Victoria's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), at the IIM campus.

Speaking at the occasion, Professor Neil Quigley said: "India is an emerging market for Victoria and this agreement is part of our internationalisation strategy of seeking high quality teaching and research partners in the Asia-Pacific region. Our strategy recognises that internationalisation can only be sustained when it is built on core teaching and research networks and this agreement is another example of that fundamental principle in action."

The opportunities for Indian students to study at Victoria have been enhanced by the New Zealand Government's decision to introduce a new fee regime for international doctoral students, enabling them to pay only the domestic rates of fees from next year. While the number of students from India studying at Victoria is relatively small there is immense room for growth, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, a press release from the institute has said.

Prof. Krishna Kumar said: "Research is an integral part of IIMK, and this tie up would further our aim to become the leading knowledge resource centre in Asia Pacific. We share strong synergies with them, as Victoria Management School was the top management unit in the New Zealand Government's Performance-Based Research Fund exercise. Already academic staff members from both IIMK and the Victoria are forging links and this will formalise the relationship and allow it to grow."
