Stress on HR for revival of sick units

Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam , Dec. 16

THE Andhra Pradesh State Finance Corporation (APSFC) Chairman, Mr M. Gopalakrishna, has said that human resources management is crucial for reviving sick industries.

He was speaking after inaugurating a three-day national seminar on `Strategies for turnaround - role of human resources' here being organised by the Department of Commerce and Management Studies (DCMS) of Andhra University.

Mr Gopalakrishna said that turnaround had become important at the national-level as the number of industries turning sick was in the range of 30 to 40 per cent.

To turn a unit around, one had to study the reasons for sickness, opportunities and liabilities.

"On the whole, financial aspects need a thorough examination and the leaders of the organisation should make it a point to adopt innovative HR practices," he said.

He called for a change in the mindset of the workers and the management towards the organisation to face competition and explore advantages of diversification, restructuring, consolidation and outsourcing. The gap between research and development and HRD should also be bridged.

The Director (HR), GlaxoSmithKline, Mr. P. Dwarakanath, said that every profession was important regardless of technology and finances.
