CSIR's IP, tech management scheme gets nod

THE Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval to the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to implement an Intellectual Property and Technology Management scheme at a total cost of Rs 145.15 crore over the period of the Tenth Five-Year Plan.

"Out of the total cost of Rs 145.15 crore, CSIR will get Rs 100 crore through the Plan Budgetary support. The rest will come from the earnings of CSIR laboratories," Mr P. Chidambaram, Union Finance Minister, told newspersons.

He also said that the total foreign exchange component of the expenditure during the Tenth Plan period is Rs 115.45 crore.

The CCEA has also given ex-post facto approval for the expenditure of Rs 70.75 crore incurred during the first three years of the Tenth Plan.

Besides, it has approved the acquisition of a Technology Services and Demonstration Vessel and its operation and maintenance during 2007-08, involving a revised estimate cost of Rs 230.72 crore.

Mr Chidambaram said that through this acquisition, India would get a unique facility for execution of ocean technology services and development programmes.
