Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Dec. 17

THE week ended with a better closing in spot rubber prices. Though major consuming sectors stayed away, short covering strengthened the market in the absence of quantity sellers.

Sheet rubber improved to Rs 69 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi from Rs 68.50 on Friday. The arrivals were comparatively low.

The rubber futures showed a mixed trend on NMCE. The January contract closed at Rs 70.53 (70.49), February contract at Rs 72.49 (72.44), March contract at Rs 73.25 (73.36) and April contract at Rs 74.52 (74.80) a kg for RSS 4. The volumes totalled 1210 lots, recording 604 lots in January, 258 lots in February, 276 lots in March and 72 lots in April.

The January contract for RSS 4 closed at Rs 70.50 against Rs 69.39 a kg on MCX. The transactions were low.

Spot prices a kg were: RSS-4: Rs 69 (68.50); RSS-5: Rs 67 (66.25);

ungraded: Rs 65 (64.50); ISNR 20: Rs 66.75 (66); and latex 60 per cent: Rs 49 (49).
