Infrastructure AP, IDFC Private Equity sign up for gas grid Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Dec. 18 A MEMORANDUM of Understanding (MoU) was signed here on Saturday between the Andhra Pradesh Government and IDFC Private Equity to set up the proposed State gas grid. The MoU was signed in the presence of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy, some of his cabinet colleagues, Ms Sabitha Indira Reddy, Dr J. Geetha Reddy, and Dr Vijay Kelkar, Chairman of IDFC Private Equity. The State Government has mandated Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (INCAP) as the nodal agency for setting up the State Gas grid. INCAP and IDFC Private Equity will jointly undertake a study to analyse the potential for use of natural gas in existing and future developments in industry, power generation, fertilisers, transportation and domestic sectors. This demand-survey study would facilitate in preparing the piping routes of natural gas in the State. The complete study is being undertaken by consultants Ernst & Young and is expected to pave the way for a policy framework and accelerate the pace of utilisation of natural gas discovered in the State. The State Government is considering different investment models to transport and transfer natural gas to all the pockets in the State. The State proposal to set up a gas grid is based on estimates of large gas finds in the Krishna-Godavari basin area.
