'Unlikely to impact recruiting of women'

Anjali Prayag

Bangalore , Dec. 18

THE Silicon City's IT employees are yet to recover from the shocking murder of Ms Prathiba Srikantamurthy here last Tuesday.

Talent-starved BPO firms have been struggling to keep a lid on their employee turnover, which is estimated to be anywhere between 40 per cent and 80 per cent. Will this incident have an impact on the recruitment process in BPOs?

Says Mr Prosenjit Ganguly, Vice-President and Head of HR, HTMT, "Though this incident is a wake-up call for all BPOs, I don't think this will impact recruitment in the long run." He said, "We go out of our way to provide security to our lady employees. The society may get psyched initially, but the incident may not have a long-term impact on recruiting women in the industry."

Mr Jayachandran Pillai, Director, Alp Management Consultants, a recruitment firm , feels that for sometime, women may ask for 9-5 jobs. He agreed with Mr Ganguly that in the long run, this incidentmay not impact hiring of women employees by BPOs.

"There are so many migrants in Bangalore who are dependent on BPOs for a living," he pointed out.
