Brands Jewellery co Carbon plans foray into women's accessories Anjali Prayag
Bangalore , Dec. 19 BRANDED jewellery company, Carbon Accessories Ltd is planning to expand its offerings to include other fashion accessories for women. According to Mr Mahesh S. Rao, its Managing Director, Carbon may initially experiment with bags and other leather accessories and once the brand evolvesfurther, it will take it to watches and writing instruments. "Carbon, an aspirational brand, is currently targeted at young women but will also get into products like cufflinks and pens targeted at the metrosexual man," Mr Rao added. Carbon jewellery, crafted with 18K gold and diamonds, is now available at 53 outlets across the country. This includes three exclusive stores, two in Bangalore and one in Delhi. "Though we are expecting the multi-brand outlets to take the brand ahead, we want to increase our presence through the exclusive stores too," he said. About 25 stores in the next two years is the planned growth. Though an overseas foray is not ruled out, Mr Rao said Carbon would like to strengthen its presence in the country before considering retailing its products abroad. "There is tremendous opportunity here for aspirational brands," he feels. While Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai are well-established markets for Carbon, Mr Rao sees potential in markets such as Chandigarh, Guwahati, Pune and Vizag. "We are targeting the top 12 cities in the country," he said. Commenting on Carbon's partnership with AsianStar, a "sightholder" (supplier of choice) with Diamond Trading Company , which picked up a 50 stake in Carbon almost one-and half-years ago, Mr Rao said, "It is a joint venture and not a sell-out". "In fact, it is a strategic partnership and with this we have more capital to build and take our brand ahead," he said.
