New Delhi , Dec. 20

THE US-based Perot Systems Corporation hopes to add 1,500-1,800 professionals to its Indian operations over the coming year, thus increasing its current workforce by 25-30 per cent.

Perot Systems, which had a joint venture with HCL till December 2003, has been growing its headcount in India by 25-30 per cent in the last two years and hopes to maintain this growth rate in 2006, Ms Padma Ravichander, Managing Director of the company's Global Applications Solutions division, told newspersons.

The company today inaugurated the infrastructure operations from its Noida and Bangalore facilities to leverage the country's low-cost model.

The new operations will span 22 functions including service desk, enterprise command centre, network operations, Unix administration, database administration, and messaging administration.

With this, Perot's operations in India would cover three areas - applications, infrastructure, and BPO.

The Indian headcount is currently 6,000, which is one-third of Perot's global workforce.

Globally, while applications account for 38 per cent of the Perot business, infrastructure services contribute 47 per cent, and the rest comes from BPO operations.

"India has become a part of our global delivery model, as it offers advantages such as cost and quality. The infrastructure operations in India has 400 people, and we expect to double it during 2006," Ms Ravichander said. The company will provide infrastructure services to clients in healthcare, engineering construction, communication, and transport, among others.

"We will be serving 12 of our global customers, and work on various projects except those relating to US Federal Government."

Other services under infrastructure include mainframes, Intel administration, middleware, storage, and security.

Mr Mike McClaskey, Vice-President (Infrastructure Solutions) and Chief Information Officer, said: "Services from the new building utilise the same tools and ITIL-based processes used throughout the company to provide the same low-risk and predictable results to our clients, while offering them more delivery options, on-site, blended, or fully offshore."
