MR Om Prakash, who has been appointed the Managing Director of Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels Ltd, will assume charge on Friday, according to a company press release.
He is now the unit general manager of Hindustan Machine Tools Ltd, tractor division, Pinjore (Haryana).
A mechanical engineer from the Delhi College of Engineering and an MBA from Punjab University, Mr Om Prakash underwent training in erstwhile Czechoslovakia; he visited several countries on official assignments.
He assumes charge as the MD of Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels at a critical juncture when a revival package is awaited for the ailing public sector unit here.
Earlier this month, when the issue of the revival package for Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels was raised in the Lok Sabha, Mr Santhosh Mohan Dev, Union Minister for Heavy Industry, replied that the Andhra Pradesh Government wanted the unit merged with BHEL.
The Minister said the revival package for the unit was under the consideration of the Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction.
