Bihar's IT dream

The new Bihar Chief Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar, has started well. He has remained humble and steered clear of politics of revenge.

He wants to bring IT into Bihar. His government plans to take a big leap into e-governance by developing special Website pages on the State's official portal that will record the progress of ongoing development projects and the grievances of the public. He has promised to set up "gyan kendras" (knowledge centres) in every village to provide Internet facilities as part of an ambitious project to spread IT in rural Bihar.

He has vowed to change the `existing work culture' in the State. New sugar mills will be opened to replace the old; and agro-based industries will be set up.

A World Bank team has already visited Patna and held a meeting with the Chief Minister and other senior State officials to discuss possibilities of making investment in various developmental projects in Bihar. I wish the technocrat CM takes advantage of World Bank's interest. If Bhubaneswar can attract IT giants such as Infosys, why not Patna?
