`Cos must integrate societal tasks at operational level'

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Dec. 21

SCOPE, the Standing Committee of Public Enterprises, has said companies should integrate their societal responsibilities at the operational and strategic levels.

While public sector enterprises have been the flag-bearers of CSR (corporate social responsibility), they should be further sensitised about such initiatives, said the SCOPE Director-General, Mr S.M. Dewan. He was speaking at a SCOPE-ILO meeting on `CSR and the global compact to improve competitiveness of enterprises' here on Tuesday.

Mr Dewan said PSUs had been the growth catalysts during the early years of the country; their efforts were visible in community support, labour relations, running of schools, medicare and adoption of remote villages, according to a release issued for SCOPE.

Mr Rajen Mehrotra, ILO's Senior Specialist (Employers' Activities), said several companies were signatories to the UN initiative on Global Compact.
