Coir Board insurance scheme for industry workers

THE Coir Board has implemented an insurance scheme for the 4 lakh workers in the industry. As per the scheme, if any worker dies or suffers from permanent disability at work, his family would get a sum of Rs 50,000, while the sum would be to Rs 25,000 for partial disability. The Board has paid the premium on behalf of the workers. The outgo on this account is Rs 10 lakh, Mr A. C. Jose, Chairman, Coir Board said.

He said every worker in the industry was covered under the scheme. The units have to give the workers' list. A declaration was necessary in the case of roadside workers engaged in the making of coir ropes.
