Mixed trend in rubber prices

, SPOT rubber prices showed a mixed trend on Wednesday. The trading volumes were dull as most of the traders kept a low profile.

According to observers, the market does not seem to experience even the usual selling pressure during Christmas season. Sheet rubber RSS 4 was quoted at Rs 69.50 against Rs 70 a kg at Kottayam, while it remained steady at Rs 69.50 a kg at Kochi.

The rubber futures turned better in NMCE though the overseas indices ended slightly weak. The January contract was quoted at Rs 70.74 (70.14), February Rs 72.60 (72.17), March Rs 73.70 (73.18) and April contract at Rs 75.02 (74.59) a kg for RSS 4. The January delivery contract for RSS 4 was quoted at Rs 71.24 against Rs 71.32 a kg on MCX.

The January futures for RSS 3 weakened to 199.8 yen from 200.1 yen a kg at TOCOM. The grade closed at Rs 76.67 against Rs 77 a kg at Bangkok.

The physical rubber prices per kg are as follows: RSS-4: 69.50 (70); RSS-5: 68 (68); ungraded: 66 (66.50); ISNR 20: 67.75 (67.75); and latex 60%: 48 (48).
