THE Andhra Pradesh Government today decided to go ahead with the plan to increase the discharge capacity of Pothireddypadu head regulator of the Srisailam project to 40,000 cusecs, even as an all-party meet ended up with walk out by some political parties.
The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy, who chaired the meeting, along with senior Cabinet colleagues, announced that the Government would go ahead with the proposal to increase the flow aimed at helping some parts of the State.
However, Dr Reddy said that he would have another round of discussions to increase the regulator's capacity by 4,000 cusecs, to benefit Anantapur.
The Chief Minister deferred discussions on the Polavaram project which was listed in the agenda during the all party meet. This has been postponed to Janauary first week. The Government also plans to hold meetings on Kalwakurthy and SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal) projects shortly and expects to issue separate orders for each project if the parties so preferred.
Earlier, after heated debate that centred around issues relating to regional imbalances, the opposition Telugu Desam Party and Telangana Rashtriya Samithi staged a walk out against the Government approach in handling irrigation projects.
