Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Dec 21

BASIX, a micro-finance firm working in rural areas, will launch two new products - a health insurance scheme for couples and loan programme for village level organisations.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr N.V. Ramana, Managing Director of Bhartiya Samruddhi Finance Ltd, said the insurance scheme was targeted at couples.

By paying one-rupee a day as premium (per person) the couples could avail the insurance cover for five-day hospital expenses (at the rate of Rs 300 a day). In case of the death or permanent disability to one of the two, the family would get a compensation of Rs 20,000. The company had set a target of one lakh customers for the insurance schemes in one year.

The second scheme envisaged giving loans to village organisations at an interest rate of one per cent a month. He said the organisation was offering various types of insurance schemes in association with companies such as Aviva, Royal Sundaram and ICICI Lombard.

The micro finance firm had so far extended credit to the tune of Rs 400 crore to more than two lakh people in eight States. Besides offering loans in rural areas, the company would help in increasing agricultural productivity and establishing market linkages.
