New Delhi , Dec. 22

THE Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, said that 10 airports, of the 86 operational airports with Airports Authority of India (AAI), made profits during 2004-05.

Replying to a question raised in the Lok Sabha, the Minister said the commercial facilities and schemes planned by AAI to mitigate the losses at some airports include setting up snack bar counters, coffer shops, ATMs, soft drink vending machines, among others.

Besides, AAI has initiated action to increase the non-traffic revenues, wherever possible, and to reduce the controllable expenditure, Mr Patel said.

In addition, AAI plans to create a subsidiary company for carrying out ground handling activities of the airlines on commercial terms and to allot the contracts of aviation refuelling outlets, the Minister said.
