DESPITE the assurances given by Union Ministers and senior Government officials, an alternative to the Duty Entitlement Pass Book (DEPB) scheme for exports is yet to be announced.
This has created confusion and uncertainty among exporters, said Mr R.L. Toshniwal, Chairman, Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) in a release issued here on Wednesday.
Due to this uncertainty, exporters have not been able to conclude export orders, which will have a serious fall-out on the performance of the synthetic textile sector. The sector is already showing a negative growth in the current year, he said.
He urged the authorities to announce a new alternative scheme without any delay or to give extension to the existing scheme, so that export activity in this sector is not affected. In the absence of a new scheme, Customs authorities may disallow the use of DEPB on January 1, 2006, he added.
