Mixed trend at Kochi tea sale

A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Though the dust sale witnessed a good general demand, it was comparatively low for leaf varieties.

Of the quantity of 9,24,000 kg on offer in the dust category, high priced CTCs remained steady.Medium and below mediums were fully firm to dearer by Re1-Rs 2. Orthodox Highgrowns dust was steady. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 63-73, medium CTC realised Rs 50-59 and below medium were quoted Rs 38-45.

Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 98-112. Secondaries were quoted Rs 22-28.

The leaf sale witnessed only a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 3,05,000 kg. Medium orthodox whole leaf grades were steady to dearer by Re1-Rs 2. Brokens and Fannings were barely steady. Highgrowns were irregular. CTCs witnessed good demand and were dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2 with some enquiry from exporters also. Exporters were selective on orthodox grade.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 54-65, medium orthodox realised Rs 40-52. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 43-48, medium CTC leaf realised Rs 39-42. In the dust category, Kodanaad Cl.BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 112, followed by Parkside Cl.BOPD-S by Rs 98.

In the leaf varieties, Kodanaad Cl.BOPF realised the best prices of Rs 110.11 followed by Chamraj OP by Rs 103.
