Tea Coonoor tea sale ends year on high note P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , Dec. 25 THE Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions for the year 2005 ended on Friday on a happy note with the prices increasing by Rs 3 a kg on an average, following improved demand absorbing the low offer. Improvement was more noticeable in the bottomline. No tea was sold for less than Rs 32 a kg this week Rs 2 more than the previous week. Many plain teas were sold for more than Rs 38 a kg. A few months ago, the bottom price ruled at Rs 20 a kg. The last auctions for the year saw the lowest volume of 7.8 lakh kg on offer for the whole year. Among the exporters, the purchasers for Pakistan market continued to be forceful. They picked up the teas for up to Rs 46 a kg. Quotations held by the brokers indicated bids ranging from Rs 32-36 a kg for the plain leaf grades and Rs 60-68 for the brighter liquoring teas. For the plain dust grades, the bids ranged from Rs 34-36, while the brighter liquoring ones, got Rs 60-68.
