Mega serial on Lord Balaji

PRASAR Bharati has joined hands with Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams to produce a mega television serial on Lord Venkateshwara with a budget of Rs 12 crore.

The project has already generated interest among sponsors. Five banks have committed sponsorship for Rs 11 crore.

The serial to be produced by Mr Dharmendra Tiwari of Mumbai, is likely to go on air on the National network of Doordarshan from Ugadi (Telugu New Year day) at 7.30 a.m., according to Mr K.S. Sarma, Chief Executive Officer, Prasar Bharati.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said the serial will be telecast in six languages - including Hindi. The title of the serial is yet to be decided.

The theme of the serial is woven around Lord Balaji. Various aspects related to the legend of the lord, the kings and queens that ruled the area, anthropology of the area, culture and history of the temple town that attracts lakhs of pilgrims from India and abroad.

The Prasar Bharati-TTD team has assigned some pundits and scriptwriters to finalise the script. The broadcasting corporation has dedicated five officers to take care of the project.
