Railways Rlys develops kit for running diesel engines on CNG Our Bureau
New Delhi , Dec 25 THE Railways has developed and tested a kit with which diesel engines can run on CNG. Operational costs with a dual fuel engine are expected to be 25 per cent less than diesel-based multiple units. In a bid to encourage cleaner fuels, the Government has been promoting CNG and LPG as alternatives to conventional fuel like petrol and diesel. "Unlike conventional engines, the new engine works on dual fuel, the load cycle is partially on diesel and partially on CNG," said Mr R. Velu, Minister of State for Railways, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. He added that trials of commercial service on one diesel multiple unit (DMU) rake were commenced recently.
