Amway set to expand product portfolio

Our Bureau

Coimbatore , Dec. 26

AMWAY India is all set to expand its product portfolio with the launch of nine additional products in the current year, widen its reach to 2,000 cities and towns and aim at a double digit growth.

With the introduction of two more products under its `Attitude' brand — a foot cream and a body and hand cream, it has taken the number of skin care products to seven. The products under Attitude range include a cleanser, toner, moisturiser, face wash and sunscreen lotion. The company may roll out more products over the next eight months.

It also plans to launch a weight management product in India. This product though is not new in many other countries.

Addressing a press conference, Mr Sanker Parameswaran, Director (Legal and Corporate Affairs), Amway India, said, "Globally Amway is recognised as a health and beauty company. But through these launches, it is aiming to reposition itself (in India) as a leading player in the nutrition and cosmetics category.''

Amway India has recorded a turnover of Rs 633 crore during 2004-05 fiscal and is targeting a 10 per cent growth this year. (The company's fiscal year is between September 1 and August 31). Its turnover swelled from Rs 91 crore in 1998-99 to reach Rs 633 crore in 2004-05.

The company has proposed a twin-track strategy to drive growth. On the one hand, it has drawn up a product launch plan, while on the other, it plans to strengthen the home delivery network to widen the reach to 2,000 cities and towns.

Mr Parameswaran said `Nutrilite', Amway's Nutrition and Wellness brand had, within four years of its launch, started to contribute to more than 50 per cent of the company's total turnover.

The company has 48 offices and 39 city warehouses across the country.
