MORE than five lakh traders of Delhi kept their shutters down in response to a day-long `Delhi Trade Bandh', claims Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), a Delhi-based body of trade associations and federations.
The bandh was called to protest the demolition of buildings by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which the MCD has termed as illegal construction.
The call for bandh was given by the CAIT, Delhi Vyapar Mahasangh, Delhi Traders Sangharsh Morcha, the Federation of Delhi Traders Associations and Delhi Rajya Vyapar Sangathan.
At various places in the Capital, traders undertook `Vyapar Bachao March' and also sat on a day-long dharna demanding stoppage of the demolition drive.
CAIT claims that 475 markets in the Capital remained closed resulting in a business loss of about Rs 200 crore, which in turn resulted in a revenue loss of Rs 25 crore to the State Government.
