GAIL places Rs 485-cr orders for gas pipelines

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 27

GAIL (India) Ltd on Tuesday said that it has placed orders worth Rs 485 crore for its Dahej-Uran and Vijaipur-Kota pipeline projects.

In a statement issued here, the company said it has placed orders for supply of pipes for the Dahej-Uran pipeline (DUPL) project amounting to Rs 405 crore and orders worth Rs 80 crore for the Vijaipur-Kota pipeline (VKPL) project.

The supply of pipes for DUPL project shall commence by April 2006, and the 500-km pipeline project is to be completed by February 2007, the company said.

The inter-State gas pipeline would link the two important gas markets of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Once the DUPL project is commissioned, the Gujarat and Maharashtra markets shall be interconnected, resulting in Maharashtra gaining access to multiple gas sources, the company said adding that this shall also lead to bringing much needed relief to the power generators in Maharashtra.

For the Vijaipur-Kota 185-km pipeline project, the supply of pipes shall commence from April 2006 and the pipeline would be completed by December 2006.

The pipeline shall supply natural gas/RLNG to the energy-starved Rajasthan and shall also help in feeding gas to Kota in Rajasthan.
