Cancellation of railway tickets

The Railways' decision to double the charges on cancellation of tickets `Cancellation of train tickets to cost more' (Business Line, December 28) deserves to be commended as a step in the right reason.

As it generally happens, soon after advance booking opens for any day, there is a mad rush and not only are tickets sold out but there is a long waiting list.

But as the day of travel nears, the wait-list gradually clears. Those responsible for the initial bookings are mostly travel agents and not genuine passengers. This practice must be stopped.
