Emerson forays into SOHO segment

Our Bureau

Pune , Dec. 28

EMERSON Network Power (India) Pvt Ltd, pioneers in network uptime solutions and leaders in the enterprise and SME UPS market, has announced its entry into the SOHO (small office home office) segment with the launch of two UPS models, the 600VA and the 1000VA under the ITON range.

With the launch of the ITON 600VA and ITON 1000VA, Emerson has become the only vendor in the Indian market to offer complete spectrum of air and power solutions across SOHO, SME and large enterprises.

According to Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT), the size of the UPS market in India touched Rs 1,400 crore in 2003-2004. Of this market, the sub-5 KVA segment, comprising home, SOHO and SMB users, constitutes Rs 745 crore. The enterprise segment accounts for the remaining Rs 650 crore.

With the launch of ITON 600VA and ITON 1000VA, Emerson says that it plans to capture 5 per cent of the domestic UPS market by the end of next year.

According to Mr. Shrikant Bapat, Senior Vice-President, Uptime Solutions, Emerson Network Power India, "As per IDC estimates, there are about 1.7 million organisations that fall under the small office home office segment comprising one to nine PCs."

"These businesses run on a daily revenue generation model. For them, every transaction is important and valuable. Given the importance of uptime, most customers in this segment look for longer backup time along with reliable hardware protection. The SOHO segment thus represents a tremendous business opportunity for players such as Emerson who aim to provide superior technology at an affordable price point."

Mr Prashant Mehar, Corporate Champion, Uptime Solutions, Emerson Network Power India, points out: "The UPS market in India is flooded with local UPS which operate in small pockets, along with a few national brands. Consumers are unaware that high and low voltage fluctuations, surges, spikes and unexpected power cuts can damage their valuable PCs. With the launch of the ITON range, Emerson aims to revolutionise the SOHO segment ."
