Shipping Mitsui-led consortium wins contract to build LNG tanker for Petronet Our Bureau
Mumbai , Dec. 29 THE consortium led by Mitsui OSK Lines and involving Shipping Corporation of India Ltd, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd, has won the contract for construction and time charter of one LNG tanker for transportation of LNG by Petronet LNG Ltd. SCI on Thursday informed the BSE that it would hold 26 per cent in this consortium. The ship is expected to be delivered in September 2009, following which the commercial operations will commence. The total project cost is expected to be about $248 million. This would be funded on a 3:1 project finance basis. This consortium had quoted the lowest charter hire rate of $72,880 per day for transporting gas by deploying a 1,55,000 cubic metre capacity foreign-flagged LNG tanker in the revised price bids.
