Jan-March sugar sale quota cut

NEW DELHI: The Centre has cut the free sale sugar quota for the January-March quarter to 36.5 lakh tonnes (lt) from 38 lt during the corresponding period a year ago.

For January, the quota has been pruned to 12 lt against 14 lt, according to an official press release. In addition 2.16 lt sugar would be available each month for sale through public distribution system.

The total availability during the quarter will be 42.9 lt.
