Chennai , Dec. 30 THIRU Arooran Sugars Ltd expects to crush 50 per cent more sugarcane during the 2005-06 season as compared with the 2004-05 season. The company's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Ram V. Being early in the season, the impact of the heavy rains on sugar recovery is yet to be assessed. But the profitability of sugar division for 2005-06 will not be affected, as the prospects are bright for remunerative exports. International prices have witnessed a strong bullish trend and white sugar prices are ruling at about $355 FOB Tuticorin. Domestic sugar prices are also expected to sustain during the 2005-06 season. The distillery is also expected to operate at full capacity during 2005-06 and with the resumption of the ethanol programme for automobile fuel, alcohol prices are also expected to be stable. Between July 2004 and September 2005 the company crushed 9.54 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, produced 1.83 million tonnes of sugar and 19,161 kilolitres alcohol. During the year, the company implemented a Rs 6-crore project for energy conservation. It installed a reverse osmosis plant at its distillery at a cost of Rs 6 crore for effluent treatment.
