Central fiscal deficit up 59.71 pc in April-Nov

THE fiscal deficit of the Central Government widened by 59.71 per cent during April-November 2005 to Rs 1,12, 949 crore compared to Rs 70,717 crore in the year-ago period, mainly on account of lower revenues and higher spending during the period under review.

The deficit was equivalent to 74.7 per cent of the budgeted fiscal deficit of Rs 1,51,144 crore for 2005-06.

The year-ago period's deficit was equivalent to 51.5 per cent of the Budget estimate of Rs 1,37,407 crore for 2004-05.

The latest data released by the Controller-General of Accounts (CGA) shows that total receipts of the Centre during April-November 2005 stood at Rs 1,80,073 crore (Rs 1,93,686 crore).

Total expenditure stood at Rs 2,93,022 crore (Rs 2,64,403 crore).

While corporation tax collections stood at Rs 39,386 crore (Rs 33,640 crore), personal income tax collections stood at Rs 28,566 crore (Rs 23,390 crore).

Customs duty collections stood at Rs 42,507 crore (Rs 35,786 crore), while excise duty collections stood at Rs 58,241 crore (Rs 53,972 crore).
