`Showcase potential of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi districts'

THE Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Mr Oscar Fernandes, has urged the members of trade and industry in Mangalore to showcase the potential of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts at the `Pravasi Bharatiya Divas' programmes in Hyderabad from January 7 to 9.

He was replying to the queries of the members of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) at an interactive meeting in Mangalore on Saturday. He said that `Pravasi Bharatiya Divas' is an ideal forum to the trade and industry of the region to highlight the potential of area in various sectors, especially in tourism sector. Many Malaysian and Singapore companies are interested in investing in the country, he added.

The KCCI President, Mr A. Srinivasa Rao, who presented a memorandum to the Minister, said that the Government should provide customs and immigration facilities at the Mangalore airport. These facilities will help in the operation of flights to West Asian region.

The Minister felicitated Mr Vinay Hegde, Chairman of Nitte Education Trust, on the occasion.
