Stock Markets Columns - Chat From year to year, the battles, sieges, fortunes
Jogin spent the weekend studying the performance of his portfolio during 2005 vis-à-vis the shadow one that he maintained! Dakshinamoorthy sat meditating for fresh insights about the markets. Sridevi was still recovering from the New Year party…Khan roped them all in for the weekly chat. Fall in line! ** Kay: Naya saal mubaarak to everybody! Dax: Hi, chart patterns suggest that the Nifty is poised close to… Sri : Crucial levels on the upside and the downside, right? Jog: You’ve left out right and left! LOL :-) Kay: If Nifty manages to move past the next resistance level… Dax: Upward trend could continue. Was strong in the year-end session. Jog: Slew of IPOs may dampen secondary market price trend, I fear. Sri : Investors hope for a rise from here on, at least for this week. Dax: Kundli says Nifty and Sensex will create and break new records! Jog: It would be an interesting display of fiery play in the New Year. Sri : “From year to year, the battles, sieges, fortunes…” as in Othello! Kay: It is the time to party, shall I say? Market signed off happily. Jog: “The pleasure of the fleeting year,” as the Bard sings in a sonnet. Sri : Overall mood is cautious and there’s mixed view in the market. Dax: From this level, avoid looking at Sensex or Nifty value. Jog: To avoid anxious moments! Volatility is no good for weak hearts! Kay: It is better to stick to stock specific talk. Jog: News of demerger completion driving up Reliance stock sharply. Dax: At the moment, for safety-seekers, a good bet is Reliance Ind. Sri : One can get good returns from this level even before Jan 17. Kay: Reliance may move towards a four-figure price in the homestretch. Jog: As the record date approaches? This week would be a trading time. Sri : Look at the board meeting dates, and buy the stock ahead of that. Kay: And sell on the meeting day or just ahead of it! Dax: I crunched last Monday’s numbers. Alpha Hi-tec gained 1.2 per cent. Jog: Himat Seide and Alchemist managed to stay positive on Dec 26. Sri : My mausi is feeling jittery about the company she has invested in! Kay: Ask her to be careful with bogus players! Dax: A friend asks me about Chemplast and carbon credit. Jog: “Let him make a carbonado of me,” says Falstaff in King Henry IV. Kay: Worth studying the carbon angle! Jog: In general, technology stocks look good. Sri : Studying Geometric Software, Tera Software, ICSA and so on. Dax: How about McLeod Russell? A dark horse? Jog: “My purpose is, indeed, a horse of that colour,” as in Twelfth Night. Kay: Those holding Pantaloon Retail may exit and move to Pyramid! Sri : Piramyd? I’m so bad with spelling, you no! Watch Titan. Jog: No, no! Know. “Palaces and pyramids do slope,” says Macbeth. Dax: Titan watch? No, I use a Chinese one! Low cost; ticked for a month. Kay: Titan may witness buying due to attractive pricing of its rights offer. Jog: I see heightened interest in Infosys ahead of earnings numbers. Sri : Chemfab Alkalis may rule firm as it is set to post bumper profits. Kay: NTPC likely to hike power rates to offset coal cost! Good bet? Dax: Goldman Sachs raised the forecast for metal prices. Sri : Hindalco, Nalco and India Foils will continue to shine well. Jog: Good option to invest in Gujarat Ambuja Cement. Kay: It will continue to be the market driver till the RD, i.e. Jan 17. Dax: Vijaya Bank is at Rs 60. Among the lowest priced banking stocks. Jog: Trading volumes are good. On its way to play for bigger stakes. Kay: The bank is in a very competitive industry! Sri : Riga Sugar is seeing its stock soar. Jog: Talks of reforms in the sector are a boost for listed sugar companies. Kay: Closed at Rs 91.20 on BSE, tripled from the 52-week low of Rs 30. Dax: Dabur is among the top gainers in the rejuvenated FMCG segment. Jog: Pushing Rs 210. Gained from the positive FMCG trends. Sri : “Decrease not, but grow faster than the years.” Can say of the index! Dax: Borrowing from Pericles, Prince of Tyre! Kay: “Sympathy in years, manners and beauties,” says Iago. Sri : May the years add to everybody’s wisdom. Jog: So that we choose the right course, with care! ** Lee, with inputs from Vir, Nat, Mad, Nil, The and Sve.
