THE Andhra Pradesh Government, in association with the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), is likely to set up a Diaspora Knowledge Network.
It will be an information technology and communications network and will seek to leverage the knowledge resources of the overseas Indian community in State-level projects in the social sector.
Andhra Pradesh will also collaborate with MOIA for a series of post-Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conferences for sustainable and mutually-beneficial association with the non-resident Indians in economic, cultural and social projects.
The three-day conference will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on January 7.
Mr Ahmed Khatrada, a contemporary of Mr Nelson Mandela, will be the chief guest at the conference. Chief Ministers of 12 States are expected to attend the conference.
The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, an organisation of over 41,000 doctors of Indian origin, has come forward to start a pilot project in healthcare. This is part of the follow-up activities after the conference.
About 1,500 delegates and 500 others are expected to take part in the event.
