Hyderabad , Jan. 2

BIRLASOFT, part of the $1.2-billion C.K. Birla Group, has announced its plans to set up a development centre in Hyderabad next month with investments of about $7-8 million.

The company has planned more centres, as a part of the $20-million set out for the company's proposed expansion plans.

The Chief Executive Officer of BirlaSoft, Mr Kamal Mansharamani, in a statement said: "The establishment of new centres stems from commitment to build BirlaSoft a major player in the IT services and solutions space. We plan to ramp up our staff strength to 5,000 by the end of 2006."

"The last 12 months have seen our manpower grow from 1,800 to over 3,000 IT professionals. We are looking at further expansion in existing and new geographies and are not averse to inorganic growth," he said.
