THE Dubai Shopping Festival 2006, an entertainment and shopping extravaganza, is all set to enthral visitors for a month, starting from Wednesday.
Laser fireworks in seven locations in Dubai on Wednesday evening will sound the inauguration of the festival, followed by a series of entertainment programmes.
The festival is expected to draw thousands of visitors to Dubai, which is positioning itself as a major tourist destination in the global map.
With its ongoing theme of `One World, One Family, One Festival', the organisers said this year's festival will have varied attractions to satiate the appetite of the old timers as well as newcomers.
Shoppers will have a plethora of destinations to shop from with the opening of more mega malls in Dubai since last year.
Among these, a prime attraction will be the Mall of the Emirates, which now boasts a Ski Dome, where one can experience real skiing and the surrounding St Moritz like atmosphere, right in the middle of the desert.
The new Ibn Batuta Mall and the recently opened Zabeel leisure and entertainment Parkare are the other attractions.
The festival has also on offer a host of mega raffles including 143 kg of gold and a number of luxury cars for lucky winners. This year it would offer over Dh 100 million in prizes.
An official guide has been published to provide visitors all the tips required for a satisfactory stay, the organisers said.
The guide also highlights aspects such as the Night Souq, Carpet Oasis, Islands and Bazaars of the World and the Global Village with 38 international pavilions. The festival would conclude on February 4.
