Announcements Toyota sells 32,000 units of Innova in 2005 Our Bureau
Bangalore, Jan. 3 TOYOTA Kirloskar said on Tuesday that it sold 32,000 units of Innova between March 2005 and December 2005 and expects to sell 40,000 units of the car during this calendar year. A Toyota Kirloskar press statement said that India's first three-row seating passenger car sold 4,500 units in December 2005. Customised finance schemes to handle different customer segments and marketing activities have resulted in G1 & G2 Innova models running out of stock in most of the dealerships across the country. During the launch of Innova in February-end in 2005, Toyota Kirloskar had said it expected to sell 4,500 units of the car every month. "Innova has been well accepted in the Indian market and we will be aggressively targeting the passenger car segment with an aim to sell 40,000 Innovas in 2006," the Toyota-Kirloskar Deputy Managing Director, Mr K. K, Swamy, said in the statement. Innova has captured a 33 per cent market share of the multi-purpose vehicle industry. The volumes for Innova have also come from the passenger car segment, which contributes to 25 per cent of total sales. Corolla, another model, sold 8,974 units from January to December 2005 and has a market share of 32 per cent in the executive segment. Camry sold 794 units during the same period, while Land Cruiser Prado sold 162 units, taking the total sales of Toyota vehicles in India to 42,123 units. The Toyota factory near Bangalore has a capacity to produce 60,000 vehicles annually.
