`IISc incident shows Indian science's success'

THE Prime Minister recalled the incident where Prof M.C. Puri was shot dead by a terrorist at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and described him "as a soldier of knowledge who lived a life of peace, dedicated to science and education."

Paying homage to Dr Puri, Dr Singh said, "It is a symbol of the success of Indian science and technology, of our emergence as a knowledge power that the symbols and temples of our knowledge society, are today being targeted by terrorists."
