Madurai-Kamaraj to make available 25 acres for IT park

Our Correspondent

Madurai , Jan. 4

THE Vice-Chancellor of Madurai-Kamaraj University, Dr P. Maruthamuthu, has consented to discuss and make available 25 acres of land opposite to the university for the establishment of an IT park, the President of the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr S. Rethinavelu, said at an executive committee meeting of the chamber held here recently.

He said the chamber had taken the responsibility of identifying the land for the purpose and accordingly when a suggestion was made to the Vice-Chancellor, he had agreed to pursue the matter with the Syndicate of University.

Addressing the meeting as the guest speaker, Mr A.C. Kamaraj who has submitted a proposal to the Union Government on linking of the rivers in the country, suggested that networking of rivers alone would provide a permanent solution as the country has been suffering repeatedly from the bouts of drought and floods for many years now.

Pointing to the recent floods in the State, he observed that 120 TMC of water in the Cauvery had gone into the sea without any use. The country is making use of only 15 per cent of its water resources. He suggested that linking of the rivers between Kerala and Tamil Nadu could be worked out as a two-way flow.
