Security Marketing - New Products & Services National Skills Registry project to be launched on Jan 18 Moumita Bakshi Chatterjee
New Delhi , Jan. 5 IN a move that could reduce the incidents of information security breaches, the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) is all set to launch the proposed National Skills Registry project containing database of BPO and IT employees as well as employees of vendor organisations, on January 18. "BPO, IT aspirants and existing industry employees can go and register themselves either online or through empanelled points of sales (PoS), and provide details such as their name, educational qualification, professional qualification, previous employment information, photograph and fingerprint, on NSDL database. This would be charged at Rs 300-500 per person," sources said. Sources said the National Skills Registry for which NSDL is acting as the executive agency would also have empanelled group of background checking agencies. "IT or BPO employees can approach any of these agencies and ask them to run verification checks for which the charges would be Rs 1,500-2,000, or the same can be done by his existing or prospective employers after an authorisation by the employee," they said. In the test phase, as many as 1,000 employees have already been registered in the database, sources added. Vendors' employees The Registry would also have separate fields for vendors' employees a move that would enable call centre companies to run verification checks on employees of transport and security agencies. Besides transport and security agencies, the vendor database would also include agencies hired for catering and housekeeping activities by BPO and call centre companies. Nasscom is learnt to have received requests from 3-4 well-known BPO players, that the scope of the proposed database should also cover vendors' employees as well.
