Bangalore , Jan 6

A GOVERNMENT assisted PC purchase programme was announced in Bangalore on Friday.

The programme Gyanodaya will offer affordable PCs for an EMI of Rs 399 for four years to government employees. PCs with different hardware configurations will be offered with minimal documentation and low processing fees.

Employees will be able to choose the product and loan option that best suits their needs.

Intel has collaborated with the Government of Karnataka for this undertaking. "We are pleased with the IT energy in the State. We hope to continue as an IT adviser to the Government," said Mr Franklin Jones, President, Intel India.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Mr Dharam Singh, said, "This initiative will increase PC penetration and accelerate the development of e-Governance programs."

Such schemes will help improve the access to computers across the country.

"PC penetration in India is just five per cent and should be 20 per cent," said Mr Shankarlinge Gowda, IT & BT Secretary.
