Hardware `Indian chip industry needs new models' Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan 6 THE Chairman and CEO of Conexant Systems Inc, Dr Dwight W. Decker, has called for new models to meet the demanding semiconductor business in India. Speaking on `A New Business Model for the Fabless Startup', hosted by the India Semiconductor Association (ISA) Thought Leadership Forum, Dr Decker said: "New emerging models will help place India in a higher position on the semiconductor chain by lowering costs and focusing increasingly on the local marketplace." Discussing the evolution of the semiconductor industry, Dr Decker said that rising barriers to entry in the industry, in terms of costs and complexity, would give rise to new business models, which will be ideal for the Indian start-up scenario. The President of ISA, Ms Poornima Shenoy, said: "The Indian semiconductor industry is at an interesting inflection point. Inputs from such leaders go a long way in helping entrepreneurs and innovators who will be a part of this coming wave." The ISA represents the industry with about 90 members and is in the process of building awareness and fostering collaboration between the industry and Universities.
