He also called for a national plan of action to improve the status of children. Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Burugula Ramakrishna Rao High School of Andhra Yuvathi Mandali here today, the Prime Minister listed out steps to support children and their endeavours through increased funding to Sarva Siksha Abiyan and ICDS schemes and introduction of Child Rights Bill.

Referring to women welfare, Dr Singh said governance would be made more gender sensitive with the adoption of legislations that address their concerns and focussed budgeting.

For the first time, an attempt is being made to go beyond conventional areas of women concerns such as education and health and the focus is now on resource allocation and implementation across sectors. A greater share would be given to them in decision-making at all levels.
