A MEMORANDUM of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Saturday between the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), in the area of healthcare.

The MoU, inked during the three-day Pravasi Bharat Divas, inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will facilitate the launch of pilot projects in basic healthcare.

One of the first initiatives would be in Andhra Pradesh, with the active involvement of the State. It would be scaled up and was expected to give an impetus to India's efforts to reach the Millennium development goals in healthcare, Dr Vijay Kohli from AAPI said at the meeting.
