Flowing in plenty

A dairy farmer delivering milk at a collection centre near Kochi. India is the largest milk producer in the world, making up 14 per cent of the total global production.

Small, marginal and landless farmers produce over 70 per cent of the milk. Dairy farm holdings in the country total nearly 100 million. Though India tops in milk production, it is still way behind in yield per animal.
