Mr B.V.R. Subbu
Hyderabad , Jan. 12 HYUNDAI Motors India Ltd (HMIL) expects to roll out its milestone `one millionth' car in mid-February, its President, Mr B.V.R. Subbu, said here on Thursday. Stating that the capacity utilisation was 100 per cent during the calendar year 2005, Mr Subbu said the company's growth rates would have gone up further, but for the constraints in capacity, which would be augmented this year. HMIL registered overall sales of 2,52,851 vehicles, a growth of 17.26 per cent over the previous year. In the domestic market, it clocked a growth rate of 11.83 per cent with sales of 1,56,291 units. On the export front, sales grew by 27.2 per cent with 96,560 units, compared to 2004. The company also plans to launch a new traffic initiative in Hyderabad in February, following up on the one slated for New Delhi this month. The idea is to also involve other corporates in creating traffic awareness across the cities, Mr Subbu told newspersons, after inaugurating the second Talwar Hyundai showroom here. While HMIL's range of products performed well across the segments, a disappointment was `Elantra.' Despite producing the `safest' and best car in the class, which includes Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Optra and Skoda's Octavia, "We have failed to communicate the benefits of the car to the customer. Perhaps our advertising was not done well and we have a situation where the Elantra has not done as well as we expected," he said.
