Mangalore , Jan. 12

THE Kanara Small Industries Association (KSIA), in association with Dakshina Kannada District Administration and District Industries Centre, will organise a national-level industrial trade fair - `Yantra 2006' - in Mangalore from February 14 to March 15.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, the KSIA President, Mr Krishna Bhat, said manufacturers of various machineries would participate in `Yantra 2006'.

The trade fair would also provide a forum to the small-scale industrial units in the region to showcase their products and market them at the national level. Around 250 stalls would be set up at the trade fair, he said.

Students from various engineering colleges in the region will be given an opportunity to exhibit their project models.

Dr H.V. Parswanath, Deputy Commissioner of the district, who released the brochure of `Yantra 2006' on the occasion, said the Government wanted to attract more eco-friendly industries to the region. The one-month industrial trade fair will be held on `no-profit, no loss' basis.

Mangalore SEZ: Asked about the progress in the establishment of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Mangalore, he said the Government had approved the name `Mangalore SEZ'. The process of formation of a special purpose vehicle for the implementation of Mangalore SEZ is in the final stages.

To a query on the establishment of an IT (information technology) SEZ in Mangalore, Dr Parswanath said the process of land acquisition for the project was in the final stages. IT SEZ would come up on 500 acres at Pajeer-Kairangala village, he added.
