Stalemate in Toyota Kirloskar continues

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Jan.12

THE stalemate over the dispute between the Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd (TKML) management and its employees union continued as the conciliatory efforts today by the Deputy Labour Commissioner and Conciliation Officer failed to reach any conclusive decision.

Representatives of the TKML management, including its General Manager (Legal) and the bearers of TKM Employees Union met the Deputy Labour Commissioner separately. The CITU state committee office-bearers also joined the employees in the meeting.

The company has sought time till January 16 to study the demands of the Union.

The Deputy Labour Commissioner made three suggestions that were accepted by the union, but rejected by the management, which sought time till Monday to arrive at a decision.

The suggestions included immediate withdrawal of the strike by the union, lifting up of the lockout by the management with immediate effect and keeping in abeyance the dismissal of the three workers till the court's decision on the matter, a spokesman for the union.

"The management will study and submit its response in the next meeting. Status quo will continue," a press statement issued by TKML said.

The employees, who went on a flash strike on January 6 in protest against the dismissal of three employees, affected the production. The management declared an indefinite lockout on January 8.

A TKML spokesman said as the company had enough inventory in the pipeline, the impact of the production stoppage would not have immediate effect on its distribution. He said with the help of supervisory staff, who had been trained, the company was able to produce 50 cars in the last two days.
