Poultry To counter falling prices in TN NECC steps in to buy surplus eggs through its marketing arm G. Gurumurthy
Coimbatore , Jan.13 EFFORTS are on to set up a market intervention mechanism to arrest the falling prices of egg price in Tamil Nadu. The National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) in Namakkal has made arrangements for procurement of surplus eggs by the Agro Corpex India Ltd, its marketing arm. The move to involve Agro Corpex India in procuring the surplus eggswould prevent further slide in the table egg prices, according to Dr P. Selvaraj, Chairman of the zonal committee of NECC at Namakkal. The Namakkal zonal committee, in its price review meeting on Thursday, decided to set a lower procurement rate for table egg at Rs 1.30 a piece and to retain it for a week. The NECC felt that the demand for table egg in north Indian centres continued to remain strong in view of the prevailing cold wave conditions. The surplus egg procured from Tamil Nadu by Agro Corpex could thus be diverted to the northern centres to stabilise the egg rate within the State. The intervention by Agro Corpex is also contemplated to spike the move to pull down the the egg prices further as, according to Dr Selvaraj, the market reports point to attempts by the trade to seek a discount to the extent of 20 paise off the NECC's farm-gate rate of Rs 1.30.
